A midwife is a primary health care professional who provides expert care during normal pregnancy, labour and birth. Midwives also provide care to both mother and baby for 6 weeks after the birth. Family Care Midwives provide a safe, accessible and supportive environment for our diverse clientele and our midwifery team. Midwifery care is part of the Ontario health care system and is fully paid for by the government to any resident of Ontario, with or without OHIP.
Our primary role as your pregnancy and birth companion is to nurture and hold the sacred space to allow for the birth of your child to take place in the realm of the undisturbed. We will act as your advocate while working with those close to you to do the same. We respect, without judgement, the family unit and work towards strengthening and empowering you. We use a reproductive justice framework to guide our work.
Primary care for pregnancy, birth and early postpartum. Midwifery care is provided through the principles of Informed Choice, Continuity of Care, and Support for Normal Pregnancy and Birth. For more information, please see www.aom.on.ca
