Directory

Our directory lists health, legal, and social service providers as well as programs that have expressed a commitment to providing competent and welcoming care to LGBTQ parents, prospective parents, and their children.

While the emphasis is on listings within the greater Toronto area, it includes listings from across Ontario.

Many families are unsure where to start to find LGBTQ competent lawyers, family doctors, fertility clinics, adoption professionals, doulas, midwives, or child care workers. This directory allows LGBTQ people to search for providers within their geographic area who have experience working with our communities.

Rainbow Health Ontario provides a similar directory which includes only health and social service providers across Ontario.

Individual and Family Therapy and Counselling (Adults and youth) I am a Registered Social Worker (RSW) who provides counselling and psychotherapy to adults, youth and families in Toronto. I also provide parent coaching/consultation services.

Areas of specialization include: working with adolescents; working with individuals and families around issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity; working with parents of LGBTQ youth and young adults (including parents who are struggling to understand/accept their child's sexual orientation and/or gender identity); working around issues of depression, anxiety and healing from abuse; working with families who have come together through adoption; strengthening parent-child relationships / addressing family conflict; working with youth who are struggling with depression, suicidal feelings and self-harming behaviours; working around issues of sexuality and sexual health.

I am trained in multiple therapeutic modalities - the approach we take will be responsive to your unique needs and goals. I am particularly influenced by attachment-informed therapies, trauma-focused therapies, mindfulness-based therapy, and emotion-focused therapy (EFT). Since 2013 I have been pursuing certification in Attachment Based Family Therapy (Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA), which is an evidence-based approach for working with depressed youth and their families, and which has been researched with LGBTQ youth/young adults, and their families. I work from an anti-oppressive, harm reduction framework.

I would be honoured to support you and/or your family through life’s challenges and transitions. Please do not hesitate to contact me for a free telephone consultation to discuss how I can be of support to you.

The Centre for Fertility and Reproductive Health proudly welcomes same-sex couples and individual members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer and transgender (LGBTQ) community as we support all family building efforts and seek to provide full-service care customized to each patient’s needs. As a team, we recognize the challenges same-sex couples and LGBTQ individuals may encounter as they navigate family-building options. While we provide all patients access to a full network of professionals with experience in reproductive law, therapy and counselling, as well as egg and sperm donor, we also strive to be aware and sensitive to the particular circumstances of LGBTQ patients and provide an accessible and inclusive environment for planning and building their families.

We are proud that Mount Sinai Hospital conducted community consultations with several LGBTQ groups and health experts to develop our Gender Identity policy. The policy is a model for other health care organizations and is posted on the Rainbow Health Ontario web site. It outlines guidelines for the fair treatment of all trans, intersex and two-spirit patients and staff at Mount Sinai while helping to make the Hospital a safe environment for all members of the community and protecting trans patients and staff against discrimination and harassment.

Mount Sinai has developed an ALLY campaign that includes materials and training on being an ALLY to LGB and Trans staff and patients. As allies to our LGBQ and Trans patients, our CFRH staff are open to any suggestions and feedback that would make our services more LGBQT friendly.

The Centre for Fertility and Reproductive Health is also glad to support the LGBTQ Parenting Network (Sherbourne Health Centre)’s production of videos entitled Creating Our Families based on the research project of the same name about the experiences of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Queer (LGBTQ) people with Assisted Human Reproduction services in Ontario. The videos will be used to educate people working in fertility clinics about the particular experiences of LGBTQ people, and with LGBTQ people looking to prepare to enter the world of assisted human reproduction.

The Centre for Fertility and Reproductive Health will continue our efforts to demonstrate our commitment to equitable, inclusive care for LGBTQ patients and their families.

Counselling

I provide short- or long-term psychotherapy with youth and adults who are feeling stuck, depressed, overwhelmed, stressed, or who want to explore different ways of coping with life's challenges. I have particular expertise working with:

Parents
Youth
LGBTQ people
People who have experienced violence
People using drugs or alcohol
People affected by HIV
People experiencing depression or anxiety

I use a client-centred, collaborative approach. This means that you and I would work together on things that are important to you. I would listen closely to you, offering suggestions and observations along the way. A trusting and caring relationship is at the heart of this process, and I would encourage your questions and feedback. I also take an anti-oppressive approach. This means that I understand that many of the difficulties people face are influenced by forces outside themselves, such as violence and discrimination.

I have a BA from Harvard University and an MSW from the University of Toronto. I am currently a doctoral student and instructor at the University of Toronto. I have trained and worked at a number of GTA agencies including Breakaway (Family and Youth Initiatives), the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (Rainbow Services and Re:searching for LGBTQ Health), St. Michael's Hospital (HIV Psychiatry), and the Teresa Group (Children's programs).

As a registered social worker, my services are covered by many health benefits plans. Sessions are $90 per hour. I have a limited number of sliding scale appointments. I also offer a free 30-minute consultation by telephone or in person so that you can decide if we would work well together.
